The Devils will play their first game against the Flames since January 11, 2012, which saw the Flames overtake the Devils 6-4 after a four goal first period. The two teams will meet once again on April 7, 2014.

Record Setting Game? We Hope Not:

As the Devils are 0-1-3 going into tonight’s game, we must remember that the Devils have never lost the first five games of the season. While they are currently on a three game point streak (three straight OT losses), the Devils have blown 3-0 and 2-0 leads in their last two games, respectively. As the only team without a win left in the newly created Metropolitan Division, the Devils chemistry IS there, and a win will do nothing but boost the team’s confidence.

Veteran Devil Production:

While it is great to see the newly acquired Damien Brunner, Michael Ryder, and Jaromir Jagr filling in the absence of production from the retired Ilya Kovalchuk, we need to see the familiar faces start to score as well. Patrik Elias, has two goals so far this season. Once Henrique and Zajac create chemistry with their newly found linemates, the team’s offensive production should be off the chart. The team’s defense could use a little help as well. Everyone is against sitting Adam Larsson, as the kid will one day be a stud, and I agree. However, it should be noted that Larsson is last on the team in +/-, along with Ryan Clowe and Ryan Carter, with a -4. Assistant Coach Scott Stevens needs to show this defense to not get out of position, and how to use their bodies when in the defensive zone. If this team can bolster up their defense while adding veteran point production, the New Jersey Devils will be a force to reckon with in the Eastern Conference

Projected Devils Lineup:

Zubrus – Elias (A) – Jagr
Clowe – Henrique  – Ryder
Olesz – Zajac (A) – Brunner
Josefson – Gionta – Bernier

Salvador (C) – Zidlicky
Greene – Larsson
Volchenkov – Harrold

Scratches: Carter, Loktionov, Fayne

The Latest on the Calgary Flames:

The Flames are looking to make it five straight games without a regulation loss. The Flames were seemingly put into a hole when their long-time goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff retired this past off-season. Joey MacDonald has started three of the Flames’ first four games. Most recently, he had 33 saves against the Canadiens on Wednesday, as the flames won 3-2. Devils fans should also be on the lookout of rookie, Sean Monahan. The sixth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, currently has a three game goal scoring streak, and has a point in every Flames game so far this season (3-2-5).

Projected Flames Lineup:

Glenncross – Street – Galliardi
Baertschi – Monahan – Stempniak
Bouma – Backlund – Hudler
Jackman – Colborne – McGrattan

Giordano – Brodie
Russell – Wideman
Butler – O’Brien
